Just finished my first read of game changer and I have thoughts, especially reading it after watching the show first.
1. It was SO fun catching little things that I think are parallels to Shane and Ilya’s story in the show.
Scott lifting the cup and saying for mama immediately stood out to me. There were a bunch of little moments and lines where I was like ohhhhh okay, these sound familiar
Now I’m even more curious to keep reading and see what else they pulled from the other books

2. I really loved getting more of Kip and Scott’s internal dialogue!
You understand them so much better when you’re actually inside their heads, especially Scott and how much fear he’s carrying around in coming out
The show can obviously only give us so much of that, so I really liked getting all the extra context.

3. That said, reading the book somehow made me appreciate the adaptation even more
The book gives you all the inner thoughts, but the show had to create that same feeling in a totally different way.
Them parting ways on Kip’s birthday added so much suspense and made everything hit harder for me.
And knowing now how much they had to fit into one episode, I really think they did a beautiful job keeping the important parts without it feeling like they were just speed-running the book.

4. Okay, my 1 complaint
Rachel’s writing during some of the together scenes drove me a little nuts.
I think I’m just a more formal reader because every “wanna” instead of “I want” had my brain immediately correcting it.
Very much a personal preference thing, but there were definitely a few moments where it pulled me out of the scene.
