🚨 Closing the Gap: Strengthening ICT Resilience 💪🏽 When ISO/IEC 27031:2025 was published, it caught my attention immediately. While ISO/IEC 27001 and ISO 22301 provide strong foundations in information security and business continuity, they treat ICT as a supporting player, not the lead. Yes, I know ISO/IEC 27031 isn’t a certifiable standard. My posts are about creating robust resilience frameworks that extend beyond achieving certification as a company. This is where ISO/IEC 27031 can be used as a supplemental guideline to create additional company controls to mature/improve resiliency. In today’s reality, ICT is the backbone. If it fails, everything else follows. That’s why I’ve moved quickly to integrate new ICT-specific controls into the framework my team has developed. Why? 1️⃣ Bridge the gap between security, continuity, and ICT readiness. 2️⃣ Reduce recovery times and data loss after incidents. 3️⃣ Align with global best practices and demonstrate resilience maturity. How? Here’s what you should consider implementing: ✅ Set precision recovery targets: Establish ICT-specific Minimum Business Continuity Objectives (MBCO), Recovery Time Objectives (RTO), and Recovery Point Objectives (RPO) for every critical service. ✅ Map the entire digital backbone: Document end-to-end system dependencies, data flows, and architecture to prioritize recovery where it matters most. ✅ Plan for the unthinkable: Build ICT-specific disruption scenarios into our enterprise risk models, from ransomware to cross-region outages. ✅ Know exactly when to act: Define explicit triggers for activating ICT continuity plans and integrating them into enterprise incident response. ✅ Engineer resilience into the core: Require tested redundancy strategies for infrastructure, applications, and data layers. ✅ Prove it in the field: Expand exercise programs to validate full ICT restoration capabilities under realistic, high-pressure scenarios. ✅ Put vendors on the hook: Hold critical third parties to contractual recovery SLAs, with testing and performance reporting. ✅ Track readiness like a KPI: Measure ICT resilience through dedicated metrics, scorecards, and internal audits to ensure continual improvement. 🤌🏽 The result: The framework my team has developed now forms a three-standard powerhouse, ISO/IEC 27001 + ISO 22301 + ISO/IEC 27031, that strengthens our ability to operate through anything, from cyberattacks to data center failures. 🤪 (Don’t worry, we’ve included NIST to develop our framework as well) 📘 Next step: I’ll continue to share lessons learned with the broader resilience community and encourage adoption across industries as we continue to implement any changes. #ISO27031 #ResilienceByDesign #ICTResilience #BusinessContinuity #CyberResilience #ComplianceCulture #RiskManagement #ISO27001 #ISO22301 #Resilience #ProgramArchitecture #BCDR

For data scientists and IT professionals, whose days are dense with screens, metrics, and models, embedding wellness isn’t optional—it’s strategic. Here’s the reality we can’t ignore: 1. Musculoskeletal stress is rampant: Up to 60% of IT workers report neck pain, and 40–50% back pain—in India, that climbs above 70%. 2. Burnout is near-universal: ~95% of WFH IT professionals have experienced burnout symptoms. 3. Metabolic risks are high: In Indian IT, 44% are overweight, 17% obese, and nearly 30% have metabolic syndrome; in Hyderabad, 84% had fatty liver and 71% were obese. 4. Digital strain is common: 82%+ report digital eye strain—often alongside “tech neck” and cardiovascular stress. So, what’s the key to building good habits at work? For data scientists, it could be stretching during dataset load time or a quick breathing exercise before a stand-up meeting. 2️⃣ Start micro, scale naturally The brain resists sudden overhauls. Start with 2 minutes of mindful breathing or a 5-minute walk after lunch, and let it grow. Small wins build confidence and consistency. 3️⃣ Protect deep focus windows Knowledge workers switch tasks every ~3 minutes; regaining focus can take up to 30 minutes. Use blocked time (e.g., 75 min focus + 33 min rest) to sustain performance without burnout. 4️⃣ Pair “low-motivation” tasks with pleasure Cleaning messy data? Reviewing logs? Pair it with music, a podcast, or your favorite tea—so the task feels rewarding. 5️⃣ Build social accountability Habit adoption jumps when there’s shared visibility. Use buddy systems, micro-challenges, or team reminders for stretch breaks and hydration. Researchers identified two primary culprits destroying well-being: techno-overload (forced to work faster and longer through technology) and techno-invasion (constant connectivity bleeding into personal life). Sound familiar? The damage manifests as emotional exhaustion, burnout, and plummeting job satisfaction, even among highly digitally competent employees. 🔥 Why this matters for AI transformation leaders: Without organisational support structures in your AI rollout strategy, you're accelerating towards a well-being crisis. AI training increases digital capability but does nothing to protect psychological capacity. Sustainable transformation requires measuring technostress alongside adoption metrics. The question isn't "Can your people use AI?" It's "Can they use AI without breaking?" 💡 Evidence-based intervention strategies: → Organisational support trumps individual resilience. The meta-finding across 201 studies: training matters, but organisational support is the critical buffer. Give people permission, and systems, to disconnect. Make "strategic unavailability" a core value, not a career liability. Reward sustainable performance, not constant availability. → Diagnose technostress before it becomes burnout. Deploy validated diagnostic tools before and during digital transformations. Brief, single-item measures work brilliantly in fast-paced environments. You need real-time intelligence. → Target the actual stressors, not generic "wellness" The research is unambiguous: focus interventions specifically on techno-overload and techno-invasion. Different role types have different stressors. Old resilience models will drain your team. New models of resilience rewire your edge. Resilience is not burnout in disguise. It’s your hidden performance ROI. Most leadership programs still define resilience using standards from the 2016 era. That model is outdated and causing employee backlash (for good reason.) As a brain doctor working at the cutting edge of human performance, I’ll say this clearly: Neuro-regulation is today’s true performance advantage. Over the last year, I’ve been in the rooms where change happens: sitting with executive boards and senior leadership teams as they navigate the most rapid workplace evolution in modern history. For many, it has become a buzzword used to justify burnout, Resilience used to be a corporate mandate to “do more with less” until the system finally breaks. But the complexity of 2026 demands something different. We do NOT need more motivational language. We need research-based tools that work with the nervous system, not against it. That’s why, in my keynote programs on culture and leadership, I begin by redefining resilience entirely. The old-school version of grit is as outdated as a rotary phone. Invest in Redundancy: Implement backup systems and data redundancy to ensure critical functions can continue during an attack. 4. Focus on Recovery: Develop strategies to quickly restore full operations after an incident. 5. Train for Resilience: Educate employees not just on prevention, but on maintaining operations during an attack. 6. Regular Testing: Conduct frequent simulations and drills to assess and improve your organization's resilience. Striking the Right Balance While emphasizing resilience, it's crucial to maintain a balanced approach. Basic security measures remain necessary, and prevention should not be abandoned entirely. The goal is to find an optimal balance between prevention, detection, and response capabilities. In an era where cyber threats are constant and evolving, resilience is no longer optional – it's a necessity. By shifting focus from prevention to resilience, organizations can better protect their critical assets, maintain operations during crises, and quickly recover from incidents. Below are the foundational principles and strategies—what I call the Survival Essentials—for preserving and enhancing human brain health in this digital era. 1. Digital Hygiene & Sensory Regulation The human prefrontal cortex, responsible for focus, decision-making, and emotional regulation, is exquisitely sensitive to distraction. Digital environments are designed to hijack attentional circuitry through intermittent reinforcement and novelty salience. Essentials: Enforce digital boundaries: Limit passive screen exposure to <3 hours/day. Protect circadian integrity: Avoid blue light and stimulating content 2 hours before bedtime. Practice tech-free rituals: Bedrooms, mealtimes, and morning routines must be screen-free zones. Engage in “visual recovery” practices: time in nature, green spaces, and natural light exposure to recalibrate sensory thresholds. 2. At scale in financial technology, resilience cannot be a checklist item. It has to be part of the platform and how teams actually build software. More teams are starting to build this directly into their workflow. AI is showing up across the lifecycle. Design, testing, code review, deployment. Not as a bolt on, but as part of how work gets done day to day. At the same time, SDKs and internal platforms are doing more of the heavy lifting. Governance, security, and compliance are no longer afterthoughts. They are built into the IDE and CI/CD flows where developers are already working. That shift matters. It standardizes how systems are built, reduces drift across services, and lowers the overall incident surface area. Especially at scale, where small inconsistencies become real problems. Those phone calls from the top are not fun conversations. Modernization plays a role here too. Moving off older runtimes like Java 8 is not just a technical upgrade. It improves throughput, reduces latency, and stabilizes performance. When that is paired with strong observability, canary releases, and thoughtful failover, systems start to behave differently. Failures still happen. Customers just do not feel them. That is the shift. Resilience becomes something that is designed in, not reacted to. For me, the model is simple. AI-assisted workflows, platform-driven governance, and modern runtimes working together as one system. That is how you move fast and stay trusted at the same time.
