Margaret Nelson was just starting to adjust. Adjust to being weird and proud of it. Adjust to the fact that she would always be too Texan for Scotland, too Muggle for the pureblood elitists at school. Adjust to the fact that going back home to Larkin's Creek didn't seem to be a possibility for the near future. But she was fine with that. She had her friends and her guitar. Sirius Black was finally figuring out who he wanted to be. What side of history he wanted to be on. He knew that he wanted nothing to do with his family, though his brother ignoring him in the hallway still stung a bit. He knew that everything would be okay as long as he had his friends and he knew he would do anything in his power to keep them safe. Even if that meant doing things that infuriated his mother.
But then everything changed. Lord Voldemort, who was previously just a whisper in the wind, was gaining momentum and even Hogwarts wasn't completely safe from him. As blow after blow was dealt to the lives they wanted to live, they realized that maybe life wasn't as simple as it had previously seemed, and maybe the two of them weren't as different as they thought.
