I'm really quite jealous of the education tools we have today, and if I could I'd spend even more time learning (by doing). Tools I genuinely love using like NotebookLM and Gemini are so powerful for engagement. What stands out for me is: (a) Personalised: Adapting exactly to your preferred style, pace, and topics. (b) Approach: Fostering "healthy struggle" instead of just spoon-feeding answers. (c) Education focus: Bringing real educational expertise directly into the tools, rather than just giving flat, generic responses. I honestly wish I'd had this back then. Filipe Gracio, PhD shared thisFilipe Gracio, PhD shared thisTwo of the most consequential roles in AI safety globally close on Monday: AI Security Institute’s Director and its Chief Research Officer. These are jobs at the frontier of one of the defining challenges of our age. In under two years, AISI has become the world’s leading AI safety institute - described by The Economist as “the closest the world has to an AI safety inspector.” It tests frontier models before they reach the public, drives safety improvements directly with the major AI developers, and has built the largest team of technical AI safety staff of any government on earth. These roles sit at the centre of how frontier AI gets evaluated and governed, in the UK and internationally. The two posts are equal co-leaders of the Institute. The Director leads on policy, national security and operations - advising Ministers, representing the UK with governments and frontier labs, and running an organisation of around 200 people. The Chief Research Officer owns the technical and scientific vision - deciding where AISI focuses as capabilities advance, and serving as one of the government’s principal sources of technical judgement on frontier AI. The pay signals the stakes. The Director post pays £100,000–£162,500; the Chief Research Officer £230,000–£240,000 - more than the Prime Minister earns. Yes the pay is nowhere near what a frontier lab would pay, but the compromise here is impact. It’s hard to think of many jobs anywhere with this much leverage over how AI safety actually unfolds. We are missing an opportunity! https://lnkd.in/evyYChciFilipe Gracio, PhD shared thisLast night I had the pleasure of being an audience member for the BBC Question Time special on AI. It was a fantastic experience! I was proud of myself for holding back until about halfway through before sticking my oar in. 😀 While it was a privilege to participate, it left me with a sense of frustration. The conversation between panel and audience had near exclusive focus on the risks and the worries of AI: job losses, social isolation, loss of data privacy and existential threat. These issues are real. I am concerned about them. However that doesn’t mean we should exclusively focus on them. If public sentiment and government policy focus mainly on such issues rather than tangible public service enhancement and economic growth, we miss the window to actively steer this transition in the right direction. The general public cannot be faulted for anxiety when the government is unable to steer its citizens through a balanced understanding that equally outlines the potential benefits. Effective governance in this time requires moving beyond reactive risk mitigation to establish proactive policy. The public need to directly experience the upside of AI for them to not be fearful of it. We need a government that doesn't just tweak the edges of the risks, but actively designs the economic landscape and opportunities that ensure the benefits of AI are both visible and broadly shared. You can now search for your perfect home using your own words. By combining property details with geospatial data from Google Maps, the conversational search brings the best matches right to you in a single view. This means you can skip the generic filters and get incredibly specific. You can ask things like: 🚗 "Is the driveway big enough for two cars?" 🎒 "Can we easily walk to the nearest school?" Early signs show that high-intent buyers are already using this to speed up their searches and find exactly what they need. It’s rolling out gradually to start, and then more widely over time. It is awarded annually to top-tier performers who deliver exceptional business results and push the boundaries of technical innovation—particularly in AI and ecosystem enablement. 2025 was a powerhouse year of driving major AI workloads and spearheading large-scale migrations. But none of these technical successes would have happened without the deep trust and collaboration of my leadership, peers, and partners. Our new "AI that works for Britain" report with Public First dives into this critical skills gap. The real momentum belongs to a distinct group of advanced users we call ‘AI Trailblazers’. Accounting for just 15% of the workforce, these individuals are fast-tracking their careers. They are 84% more likely to have been promoted in the past year, 88% more likely to achieve positive performance reviews, and are saving almost 8 hours a week. The remaining 85% are not held back by a lack of technical coding skills. Instead, they are facing specific behavioural, cognitive, and organisational barriers. The research reveals that these hurdles are entirely addressable. The biggest AI performance unlocks are coming from algorithm-system co-design. DeepSeek's recent papers focus on closing the gap between open and closed LLMs—not by throwing more compute at the problem, but by designing smarter architectures around hardware limits. 🧠 Engram Think of it as a separate 'filing cabinet' for facts. ✅ Stores facts and named entities in a static lookup table ✅ Cheaper than running everything through attention ✅ Frees up the model to focus on reasoning ❌ Problem: Adds memory pressure, slows inference ✔️ Solution: Pre-fetch from cheaper memory before it's needed Result: Better reasoning, minimal latency hit. 🧠 mHC Expands the 'highways' that move information between model layers ✅ Better signal flow = better performance ✅ No increase in model size ✅ Training stays stable ❌ Problem: More GPU-to-GPU comms needed ✔️ Solution: Smarter GPU scheduling Result: More capability, same footprint. A lot of AI progress assumes unlimited hardware access. DeepSeek is optimizing for constraints—memory bandwidth, interconnect limits, etc. Will it work in production-grade environments?
