What is Advanced Protection?

Certain accounts face a higher risk of being targeted for phishing attacks and compromise attempts on social media platforms, including Facebook. These include:
  • Accounts connected to businesses that advertise with Meta, for example, Page admin accounts or accounts added to a business portfolio
  • Creators and influencers with large followings
  • Civic actors, such as politicians and journalists
  • Creators and businesses subscribed to Meta Verified
Advanced Protection helps these accounts stay secure by requiring stronger login methods, such as passkeys, two-factor authentication or strong password requirements. It also provides additional security protections, including monitoring for potential hacking threats.

Advanced Protection is required for some accounts

Some Facebook accounts are required to turn on Advanced Protection. These accounts will receive notifications via email and on Facebook. Required accounts include:

  • Accounts added to business portfolios that advertise with Meta
  • Accounts added to business portfolios with access to monthly invoicing
  • Accounts connected to Pages or profiles with a large number of followers and the potential to reach many people
If your account is required to have Advanced Protection, you will need to either turn on two-factor authentication or create a passkey.
